Jesus Comments on YOUR Greatness
This powerful message takes us deep into Matthew 11, where we encounter John the Baptist's moment of doubt and Jesus' profound response. John, imprisoned and facing death, sends his disciples to ask Jesus a haunting question: 'Are you the one, or should we look for another?' Here we find one of the greatest prophets experiencing uncertainty, reminding us that doubt doesn't disqualify us from faith. Jesus responds not with rebuke but with evidence—the blind see, the lame walk, the deaf hear, the dead are raised. He's fulfilling Isaiah's prophecies before their very eyes. What's striking is what Jesus leaves out: the passages about vengeance and judgment. John preached fire and wrath, but Jesus came first with blessing and healing. The timing of judgment would come later. Perhaps most revolutionary is Jesus' declaration that 'the one who is least in the kingdom of heaven is greater than John the Baptist.' Think about that. We who live after the cross, after the resurrection, after Pentecost—we possess something the greatest Old Testament prophet never experienced. We don't just point toward the Messiah; we know Him, we're indwelt by His Spirit, we live in the reality of His finished work. This isn't about superiority in character but about privilege in timing. We stand on the other side of the greatest event in human history. The question becomes: are we living like we know it? Or have we become like children in the marketplace, never satisfied, always complaining, taking for granted the incredible gift we've been given?
