Make Way for Jesus

Dec 7, 2025    Pastor Chris Eshleman

This message takes us on an unexpected journey through Isaiah 39, revealing a Christmas story hidden in plain sight. We discover how King Hezekiah's failure to trust God and his alliance with Babylon set in motion events that would lead to exile and seemingly extinguish Israel's light to the nations. Yet in the darkness of judgment, God speaks comfort through Isaiah 40, promising that a voice would cry out in the wilderness to prepare the way for His return. This voice becomes John the Baptist, who calls us to repentance and readies our hearts for the coming Messiah. The message challenges us to see Christmas not just as sentimental nostalgia, but as God's dramatic rescue mission for a world lost in darkness. We're reminded that throughout history, humanity has consistently chosen power, selfishness, and darkness over God's light—from the Tower of Babel to modern moral confusion. The call to prepare the way isn't just ancient history; it's a personal invitation for each of us to step across the threshold from darkness to light, to turn from our own way and follow Jesus. Christmas becomes not just a celebration of a baby in a manger, but the dawning of a new day when God Himself entered our darkness to bring us home.
