Introducing the God Who Is

Jan 11, 2026    Pastor Chris Eshleman

This exploration takes us on a profound journey into the very nature of God, beginning not at the creation account in Genesis, but with Moses at the burning bush. We discover that when God reveals His name as 'I AM'—a name that requires nothing but breath to speak—He's revealing something revolutionary about His existence. Unlike the pagan gods of ancient Egypt who were thought to need human service and offerings, the God of the Bible simply IS. He exists eternally, without beginning or end, without need for sustenance or support. This changes everything about how we understand our relationship with the divine. We learn that for 400 years, the Israelites had been slaves in Egypt, their connection to Abraham's God fading into distant folklore. Then God breaks His silence and introduces Himself with a name that captures His eternal, self-sufficient nature. The practical implications are staggering: if God is the ground of all being, then we are not merely collections of atoms and molecules—we have inherent worth and dignity. This understanding civilizes us and prevents us from treating each other as mere objects or obstacles. When we grasp that the living God holds all things together, from the vastness of galaxies to the information encoded in our DNA, worship becomes the only reasonable response. We're invited to reconnect with the One who is the source of all life, the One from whom we've been unplugged since Eden, and to find in Him the abundant life we were always meant to experience.
