Anger, revenge, and Justice
What happens when anger and the desire for revenge take hold of us? This message takes us deep into one of the most challenging aspects of the Christian life: learning to pursue justice rather than revenge. Drawing from Ephesians 4, Romans 12 and 13, and the teachings of Jesus in Luke 6, we are confronted with a radical call to respond to wrongdoing not with retaliation, but with blessing. The contrast between revenge and justice is not merely philosophical. It is deeply personal. Revenge keeps anger in our own hands, letting it fester and drive us toward destruction. Justice, by contrast, moves us outward, drawing in others, slowing down our reactive emotions, and working toward resolution grounded in facts rather than feelings. We are reminded that God himself is an avenger, and when we trust him and the structures he has ordained, we release the burden of payback and allow something greater to work. This is not passive surrender. It is an active, courageous choice to let love and wisdom govern our responses rather than our wounded pride.
