The Forever King

Apr 5, 2026    Pastor Chris Eshleman

This powerful Easter message takes us deep into the heart of what makes Christianity unique - the promise of an eternal King who conquered death itself. We journey through God's covenant with King David, where God promises an everlasting throne, a dynasty that would never end. But here's where it gets fascinating: David writes psalms that seem to speak beyond himself, hinting at something greater than a mere succession of mortal kings. In Psalm 16, David declares that God will not abandon his soul to the grave or let his holy one see corruption. These aren't just poetic flourishes - they're prophetic glimpses of resurrection. When we reach Psalm 110, David calls someone 'my Lord' who sits at God's right hand, creating a theological puzzle: how can the Messiah be both David's descendant and David's superior? The answer explodes onto the scene on resurrection morning. Jesus didn't just rise from the dead as a nice ending to a sad story - He fulfilled ancient promises woven throughout Scripture. Peter's Pentecost sermon connects all these threads, showing how Jesus is the Christ who literally could not stay dead, who now sits at the Father's right hand, pouring out the Holy Spirit on all who believe. This isn't about making Jesus anything - it's about recognizing who God has already made Him to be: Lord and Christ. The call to us is simple yet profound: repent, believe, and receive the blessing God promised to Abraham for all families of the earth.
